Away Team 01

With the Critium safely transported to the Enterprise, the ship made it's way to Rigel where the plague was now a worldwide disaster....

By the time Lt Uhura made her way to the transporter room, Yeoman Rand and Nurse Chapel were there waiting. Chapel was trying to explain to Rand what she knew about Kirk and the green woman when Uhura barked, "Attention"! The girls immediately snapped too. Things were tense. The ship was on yellow alert as the Klingons, seeing the opportunity, were due to arrive at any time. Their goal was to petition the government to allow them to deal with the plague and in return, they would become part of the Klingon Empire. Not to be outdone, the Romulans could be detected on long range scanner approaching. Kirk and other senior members could not leave the ship so Uhura was given the task of delivering the Critium. It was time to brief her team.

"Ladies, you know what our objective is. Critium is not stable enough to pass through the transporter, so the Galileo has been on autopilot making transport trips to the surface. We will beam down to meet Commander Rostova Zdero, leader of Rigel Colony and Medical Chief and Lead Scientist, Lorsa Romero. Chapel, You will have a field rank of Ensign and will bring them up to speed on the process of synthesizing the Critium. Rand, you will act as security for Chapel with a field rank of Petty Officer 3rd class. I will be with Rostov so I should be fine." It was at this point, Uhura noticed Rand with her phaser at the ready. "Rand. What are doing? Why is your phaser weapon out?"

"Providing security mam."

"I think the transporter room on the Enterprise is secure. Where is your utility belt? Your communicator?"

"I didn't like it. I think it looks cute on you and Chrissy though. I think I like the shoulder bags we used to have better."

The lieutenant, stunned with the answer, kept her composure. "So, exactly how do you plan on performing your duties with your hands occupied the whole time?"

Rand thought for a second. "Well, these are the things I need to perform my duties so they should be in my hands. I can just put them down for a minute if I need to do something else."

"Listen here Petty Officer. You will equip yourself with a utility belt and put that gear in its proper place. Do you understand?"

"Yes mam." Rand had a look on her face that was a cross between a smile and tearing up.

"What is it now?"

Rand couldn't contain herself. "Its just that I'm so proud of you. You're in command of your first away mission." She held our her arms and started to move towards the Lieutenant.

"Petty Office Rand. If you attempt to hug me. I will take that phaser weapon and incinerate you with it."

"Sorry mam. Forgive me."

The whole time, Nurse Chapel was standing at attention with a quizzical look on her face. Uhura finally had to ask, "Yes, what is it Nurse?"

"Well, I was just thinking." responded the nurse, "Even in the 23rd century, women don't have pockets on their clothes."

Notes:
I changed Chapel from the earlier pinup I did of her. 1. It's Rand's role to be the bombshell and 2. I wanted her look to follow more of the spirit of the original Nurse Chapel.
Uhura has different hair compared to her pinup. Uhura's hair did change over the years and I think I like this version better.
