I'd had a crush on her since we were 12 and she was a 60Lb toothpick. Though she was cute, it wasn't her looks back then as much as her attitude. She was a bit of a tomboy with a wry sense of humor, one that belied her age. I was immediately love struck. So struck, I managed to embarrass myself every time I was around her. Sweaty palms, heart pounding and too dizzy to think straight, I never managed to pursue anything beyond a "one of the guys" friendship. Still, through the years, it seemed not a day went by that I didn't think about her.

Now, six years later and she had changed quite a bit. In fact, we both had. I excelled in sports and was on may to a college in another state on a full scholarship. She, on the other hand, decided neither academics nor sports were her thing. She excelled at both, but decided she didn't like expectations from others so she just quit one day. It was actually in the middle of softball game. One she was 3 for 3 at bat with 1 HR. They tried to label her a quitter, but she didn't care. We didn't see much of each other after that except for passing in the halls every so often. Now, here I was standing at her front door with my finger on the doorbell.

Suddenly, the door opened as i was ready to push the button. It was her. She was yelling something back at her mother in another language and nearly walked right into me. At 5'2", she was a mix of Eurasian beauty. She had her father's fair skin, nose and lips. Her straight black hair, eyes and cheeks were gifts from her mother. While small of stature, her wide hips and full rear end were due to her american genetics. She was truly, an american girl. She looked up, rested her head on the opened door and said, "well, well, stranger. what brings you here?"

I stood there struggling to speak....
